SUPPER TIME
11-15-2010

It was 4:45 PM, and time to make supper. And in the next half hour or so it would be dark outside. So I headed to the kitchen to start cooking, and my hubby Joe headed toward the door to go out and bring the bird feeders in.
This is when I said "hold it honey, don't go out now, there is a bear out there."

In the above picture which was taken in 2008, you can see the well; the red metal bird feeder; and also the bear we had named Rascal.
Behind the well in background is all mountain.
So now you have a visual of the landscape today's bear was roaming.
This bear was a smaller bear, maybe the one that was here last week who we named Little Bear. He ran up behind the well, and sat down.
And there he sat for about ten minutes. Just looking around and pruning himself.

FInally he made a move towards the red feeder, and slowly began eating out of it. While he was doing this, Joe quietly opened the door, to go outside and get our plastic orange feeder down, because a bear could crush it.
Well Joe decided to talk to Little Bear and the bear just sat there looking at Joe and watching him.

Meanwhile my spagetti was getting done, and I made salad, and set the table.
Joe decided to go and talk to Little Bear again, but the bear made no move to leave.
We sat down to eat, and the bear was busy eating his meal, as we watched each other.
You might say we had supper with a bear for company. Just that he was outside eating his supper and we were inside eating ours.

The bear bent the shepherds hook to get the red feeder off and cleaned out the last of the seed. Then he went to get his side dish, (like we had a salad). His was a cake of suet.
Now this bear had the best table manners. You would think a bear would take two big bites, and the suet cake would be gone.
Not this bear. He laid down on the ground, and took little bites, savoring every one.

Finally it was dessert time. Little Bear went over to our red flaming bush, and gently nibbled some small red berries from it. I wonder if we had a picnic table out there he would have wanted waited on LOL!

We have all seen people with very poor table manners, and Joe and I were just amazed how delicately this bear consumed his meal.
Finally the three of us were all done eating our meal, and I cleared off the table, while Joe watched Little Bear go around the back of house to check our recycle cans, and since the garbage can is not there anymore, he ventured down to the lower side of house. He found another suet holder and removed it from the tree and went into the lower woods. It was dark now, so couldn't see which direction he went. When he was all done he headed around to the front of the house, and up the road into the mountain for the night.

Now to find the missing suet holder and unbend the bent shepherds hook.
GGGEEESSHHHH!!!!
