A TINY HUMMING BIRD

This morning I was going about my usual routine, filling bird feeders
and then hanging them on shepherds hooks. We keep the feeders
in a huge wooden barrel in the house,
so the black bears can't get them.

They also can't smell the seed and doors and windows are locked.
We take down the feeders every night and hang them up every morning.

Apparently I left the screen door open at some point.
As I was coming past the huge window as you see in picture below,
I saw fluttering on the inside of the window.
I knew right away it was one of our ruby-throated humming birds.

I quickly hung the feeders I was carrying and hurried into the house.
I didn't see the little hummer right away
and then he began to fly up the window.
I went over to the window as he dropped down into the corner
of the window sill. He was so tiny, and looked
just like the picture at top of this page.
I was so excited and yet afraid he would fly around
the room and I wouldn't be able to catch him.

The little bird didn't fly, he just sat in the corner of the
window sill. I reached down and gently picked him up.
Oh my, what a blessing God gave me today, to be able
to hold such a tiny creature of His.
The awesome feeling inside me as I talked to it,
and stroked his head. He didn't wiggle to get loose,
but just looked at me. Everyone knows they are tiny birds.
But when I held this one in my hand, is when I realized
just how tiny. He was no bigger then the length of my thumb.
After a couple of minutes, I opened the screen door,
took him outside, opened my hand, and he was gone
in a flash. But this memory will be with me forever.

JULY 16th 2011
My husband Joe rescued a frightened humming bird
that flew in on our back porch.
He was able to catch it, hold it, then set it
free. He also saved another humming bird that
was stuck in screen on outside of window.
I am sure many of you have stories to tell
of helping one of God's creatures.
