"Unbelieveable"
Wednesday April 15, 2009
We got up this morning to a very gray rainy day. But we knew we had to get the bird feeders in place,
because the birds and woodpeckers were sitting on the shepherds hooks
and in bushes/trees waiting for "Critter Cafe" to open.
As we walked around to the back of the house, is when we noticed the black bear was here. He had
the garbage can down in yard, and contents strewn everywhere.
The ten foot steel pole was pushed over.
We decided to put up only the feeders that would not get packed down from the rain.
Then we got another garbage bag, and gloves on and started the task of cleaning up.
Now I know all this has been talked about before in stories, and is repetious, but the next part is a bit unbelieveable.
Several days ago I had made up a brand name pasta that the company just put on the market. At least in our area.
It was a bit too spicy, and even though I rinsed off the spices, we didn't care for it. So we put it in a sealed bag and put it in the garbage can.
Now remember the blackbears have just started moving
around several weeks ago, after a long winter, so they are very very hungry.
We started cleaning up all the garbage, empty yogurt cups, containers, odds and ends,
and then we came upon the sealed bag the pasta was in.
Now we would think bears will eat most anything, but well, we were wrong.
Most all the pasta laid on the ground or in the bag. WOW! Guess he wasn't hungry enough to eat pasta. Did I mention in one of my other stories about picky bears ..... well this one sure proved it.

Thursday April 16th.
Joe was up during the night, around 3 AM, and all was peaceful. Around seven thirty when we got up and were getting ready to set up Critters Cafe --
there was the garbage can once again down in the yard. The pole once again pushed over. And once again the
pasta laid on the ground untouched. And this time there were muddy paw prints on one of
our back porch windows where the bear was trying to reach up for a hanging feeder under the eaves of the porch.
We wonder if he will try again tonight. It may be a very long BEAR season.
YEP! Friday April 17th. Joe had to leave early this morning to meet a buddy and go golfing. But before he left he wrote me a note.
"The bear was here again. I did the same routine, cleaned up the garbage and straightened up the pole.
NOPE! He didn't eat the pasta."
As one friend put it - guess the pasta wasn't fit for man or beast. Unless you like lots of spices or spicey food. GGEeeeessshhhhhh!
