"OUR NEW FAMILY"

SUSIE AND RAGS

The above picture is of Rags, a miniature Schnauser, who was seven months old, and Susie, a fluffy Peekapoo, six months old.
When we first brought them home from a kennel Rags was
all scruffy/raggedy looking, and why Joe called HER Rags.
Susie was the runt in her litter and weighed only five pounds and her eyes were a mess.
We think she was allergic to something in the kennel, but the following pictures
will show much prettier healthy dogs.

Rags loves to pose, it's just that we have to find light color backgrounds
so she can be seen better.

Joe took her to a groomer and looks so pretty now. She has black eyes and her fur is
beautifully marked, with gray and white beard, legs, and apron, When she got away from us one night,
we could not see her, in the mountain blackness. And that was a very scary moment, because of the black bears we have come visit,
which we had three visits in two weeks.
Rags had gone to check out a neighbor and fortunately she came right back.

We can NOT let them run free, for they want to investigate the mountain, visit the loggers above us, run through every mud puddle they can find, and chase the neighbor's cats.
We built a dog run for them and covered it with a tarp, to keep the hot sun off them.

Susie and Rags are joined at the hips so to speak. They do not
want to be apart for a moment. And what ever one does the other one is right there, which usually means double trouble.
They have destroyed throw rugs, shoes, socks, and any clothes they can get a hold of. They have also gone through several dog beds. GGGGrrrrr!

Sorry this picture is so dark, but f you look close at this picture Joe and Rags
both have gray beards. So age doesn't have a thing to do with having gray hair or beards LOL!

These two young ladies are my daughters Beth on left and Donna. Susie loves company, but Rags is much more cautious.
Rags is a barker big time. When ANYTHING moves she barks, which I am glad for, she is my ears.
And I/we will always know when something or someone is around. However when Rags winds up, Susie winds up and she starts in. ggeeesshh!

We have only had them four months, but some days seems like four years. They are basically doing well.
Both walk with leashes on. They have full run of the house, from front porch to back porch.
When we had a strong thunder/lightning storm one night, if it bothered them the only sign we saw was them going in their crate where they feel secure. No whining, or shivering, or trying to hide.
They are very loving dogs, and protective. They have taken over as overseers of the mountain.
"Our House" is full of love, and laughter at their antics, and we are content that two more dogs have been saved and
not have to live in a kennel any longer.

UPDATE: February 2012.
We have now had them one year and two months - and they have become obedient, and know the commands.
We are able to take them for short car rides and Rags who did get car sick, has not gotten sick these last couple of short trips. Hopefully we will be able to travel with them on longer trips.
When we had them for physicals and blood work the vet caught the Lymes disease in Rags early and she was put on medication and is now okay. Thank God.
She can now run the mountain to chase squirrels because the veterinarian said
let her be a dog and run. Susie would run and play and get lost so we do not let her run.
Joe takes her on leash up through the mountains. They both love snow. LOL!
